Our Review of Top 5 King Size Mattresses in Canada (March 2026)

Best Overall - Editor's Choice — Douglas Mattress

Douglas Mattress

Highlights

  • Superior motion transfer means less sleep disturbance during the night;
  • The softer feel and excellent sinkage make it the ideal mattress to reduce pressure on joints when sleeping on your side;
  • The cover is easy to remove and machine-washable for a fresher feeling bed.
The Douglas Mattress is my number one pick because it outshone the other tested mattresses when it came to edge support, motion transfer, and sinkage. The Douglas mattress had 1.14 inches more edge support than the Puffy, and 0.56 more than the Novosbed, which gave it more stability. I would recommend the Douglas to sleepers who prefer firmer, more reliable edges.

The patented Infinitex™ and Tencel outer cover made the Douglas mattress the most comfortable out-of-the-box experience because it felt soft to the touch before any bedding items were added.

The multiple layers of the Douglas mattress ensured I felt properly supported in all sleeping positions. The first EcoLight Gel layer of the mattress allowed me to maintain a consistent temperature during the night and provided the kind of responsiveness that adapted to my body, making it feel cradled and cocooned. The second Elastex foam layer mimicked the feel and support of latex so that I felt buoyant and relaxed throughout the night.  The third substantial layer is made of supportive foam, which is the secret to the Douglas’s motion isolation properties—and the criterion which set it apart from the other tested mattresses. The Douglas mattress has 0.5 inches better motion transfer than the Puffy, and 3 inches better than the GhostBed flex, making it the perfect mattress for couples. The third supportive layer provided phenomenal edge support so that getting into and out of bed was easy and resulted in no disturbance to my partner whenever I changed sleeping positions during the night. “The motion isolation of the Douglas mattress, while I was trying it out, was no short of amazing. I wasn’t woken up or felt my partner rolling around at night, even though in the morning, I was told so,” said Jordan Maxwell, a writer of National Post. The faster response time of the Douglas, as well as its premium sinkage and edge support, make it the ideal mattress for couples who want a plush and steady mattress, and those who prefer sleeping in different positions. The Douglas had a 0.3-second faster response time than the GhostBed Flex and a 0.9-second faster response time than the Puffy mattress, ensuring my movements didn’t feel restrictive whenever I changed positions. I would recommend the Douglas to sleepers who prefer a fast-acting, modern foam feel to their mattress.

Looking for an alternative?

If you feel the GhostBed Luxe might not be the perfect match, another great option is the GhostBed Flex. It’s a hybrid model that offers more responsiveness and support, which makes it a solid choice for sleepers who want bounce and cooling with slightly less sinkage than the Luxe.

Here’s a detailed video review of the GhostBed Flex so you can see how it performs:

Based on Our Tests

During testing, I noticed that the Douglas had the best edge support and did not exceed 3.54 inches of sinkage when I sat on the edge. It also had fantastic motion isolation, and my partner didn’t feel any rocking motions whenever I changed positions. The most outstanding criterion during testing was the Douglas’s responsiveness making it feel less restrictive than other mattresses I tested.

Perfect Medium-Firm King-Size Mattress for Side-Sleepers — GhostBed Luxe

GhostBed Luxe Mattress

Highlights

  • The higher sinkage rate makes it perfect for contouring to support the joints and spine and relieve pressure;
  • Its impressive bounce rate makes it easier to change positions during the night;
  • Superior motion isolation makes it perfect for restless sleepers.
The Ghostbed Luxe is a significantly softer foam mattress than the others that were tested because of its medium-firm hardness level. Because it supports the spine's natural curve and relieves pressure on the hips and shoulders, the Ghostbed Luxe's soft to medium-firm feel makes it the perfect choice for side and back sleepers. The Ghostbed Luxe was 0.5 points softer than the Puffy and 1 point softer than the Novosvbed giving it softer and plusher feel.

The Ghostbed Luxe boasts a specially designed cooling layer that minimizes nightly sweating because the outer quilted layer feels cool to the touch and manages to stay that way throughout the night. The Ghostbed Luxe is renowned for its revolutionary Ghost Ice layer, which makes it perfect for hot sleepers who would love the supportive advantages of memory foam but avoided it in the past because it typically made them feel too hot. The GhostBed Luxe measured 0.2 degrees cooler than the Douglas mattress but 2.5 degrees warmer than the Novosbed, which wasn’t enough of a warmer temperature to make me feel sweaty, so it's still pretty cool.

“I’m a hot sleeper, and I enjoyed how cool the GhostBed Luxe was for me. Needless to say, its cooling abilities impressed me, and it feels like one of the coolest mattresses on the market,” explained Bridget Chapman, a Certified Sleep Science Coach at  Sleepopolis.

The GhostBed Luxe has impressive motion transfer properties that mean you won't experience any rocking motion if you move around during the night or change positions. It does a wonderful job of isolating and damping any mattress movement because of its high bounce rate recovery and responsiveness. The GhostBed Luxe had 2.57 inch better bounce rate than the Douglas and 1.22 inches more bounce than the Novosbed, making it ideal for active couples.

Couples or individuals who each weigh less than 230 lbs should find the Ghostbed Luxe to be an excellent choice because of its bounce recovery, motion transfer reduction, sinkage, and responsiveness. I imagine heavier people will sink deeper into the layers and have a harder time moving around.

Based on Our Tests

When testing the GhostBed Luxe, I enjoyed the excellent bounce rate, which I attributed to the mattress's latex-like inner layer that made it feel springy and buoyant whenever I moved around on the mattress. It also had wonderful sinkage that made me feel cradled and supported so that my hips and shoulders didn’t ache the following morning.

Best King-Size Spring Option — The Osgoode

The Osgoode Mattress Review

Highlights

  • Offers excellent motion isolation to help restless sleepers sharing a king-size bed sleep with fewer disturbances.
  • Has a soft firmness to make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud, relieving pressure.
  • The two inches of high-density foam responds quickly to weight, keeping you evenly level and unrestricted.
The Osgoode is my best spring option due to its excellent motion isolation, sinkage, and response.

King-sized mattresses are typically shared by two people, a sleeper and a pet, or a family that co-sleeps. This is why motion isolation is crucial for these large types of mattresses. It helps prevent the motion from transferring across the mattress width, disturbing a partner. The Osgoode does well in this category. From my compression tests, I noticed this model could absorb motion up to 4 inches. This is a good enough value to absorb when a partner tosses and turns beside you.

The Osgoode absorbed more motion than the GhostBed Luxe by a factor of 1 inch. I would recommend The Osgoode for sleepers who want less disturbances or jostling at night.

A balanced sinkage is also essential for a king-size mattress as it ensures the base is durable, and you won’t be prone to having your hips sink too deeply in the centre. From my compression tests, I measured a sinkage of 1.87 inches. This is moderate enough that I think most sleepers will enjoy the ‘on’ the bed feel that is more durable and long-lasting.

The Osgoode has 0.83 inches less sinkage than the GhostBed Luxe. I would recommend The Osgoode to sleepers looking for balanced support and cushioning to keep them evenly supported for a long time.

Another feature paramount for a king-size mattress is how quickly it responds to movement, helping you move across a larger mattress effortlessly. When doing my compression tests with this model, I got a response speed of 0.4 seconds. This is fast enough that I think most sleepers will be able to move across the width with minimal effort. The Osgoode responded more quickly than the Puffy by 1.3 seconds. I would suggest The Osgoode to any sleeper who wants unrestricted movements and a fast-adapting mattress for their home.

Based on Our Tests

According to my hand compression tests of The Osgoode, it offers even pushback across the entire mattress width. I got the impression it would suit sleepers seeking a reliable king-size mattress.

Best Hypo-Allergenic King Size Mattress — Puffy

Puffy Mattress

Highlights

  • Memory foam build provides pain relief alongside cool comfort;
  • Hypoallergenic features ensure a sleep free of dirt and irritation, excellent for allergy sufferers;
  • The mattress construction is optimized for breathability and temperature regulation.

The Puffy mattress had superior cooling features, which significantly contributed to its breathability, freshness, and relaxing feel. The plush top was comfy, making me feel cozy. The Puffy mattress’s luxurious outer layer made it about 0.5 points softer than the Novosbed, giving it the classic feel of a memory foam mattress with the added supple comfort from the Lycra and polyester fabric. I would recommend the Puffy for sleepers who enjoy sleeping on a cloud for excellent pressure relief.  I also got a good bounce and impressive motion isolation. Furthermore, the Puffy mattress was adept at regulating temperature while I used it.

As for its pressure-alleviating performance, I saw that the comfy top alongside the rigid support was able to relieve me of the tension in my body. The Puffy’s sinkage rate of 2.5 inches, which was 0.58 inches more than the Novosbed, gave me that comfortable cradled feeling while supporting my hips and shoulders when lying on my side. I liked that the support was balanced to make me comfortable in different sleep positions. The Puffy mattress is a good fit for different sleep styles and weight categories.

The Puffy outshone the Novosbed and Ghostbed Flex in two significant areas—edge support and cooling capabilities.  When comparing the Puffy to the Novosbed, I noticed its edge support was 1.7 inches more when sitting on or lying close to the edge. Likewise, the Puffy’s edge support was also 1.3 inches better than the GhostBed Flex, making it perfect for people who struggle to get out of bed due to back issues.

I felt that the Puffy’s breathable layers that are also a contributing factor to its allergy reduction features. The Puffy was 5.7 degrees cooler than the Novosbed, and 6.6 degrees cooler than the Ghostbed Flex, it was also 8 degrees cooler than the Douglas mattress and 8.2 degrees cooler than the GhostBed Luxe—making it the ideal mattress for hot sleepers.

During the test, I found that this bed's medium firmness helped position my body in a way that provided needed comfort and support. People who want adequate support for their backs will love this mattress.

Best Budget Option — Octave Mirage

Octave Mirage Mattress

Highlights

  • Copper-infused memory foam adapts to body contours, offering personalized pressure relief;
  • CryoFusion cooling technology ensures a consistently cool sleeping surface;
  • Medium firmness provides a balanced blend of comfort and support, ideal for various sleeping positions.
In the quest for the best king-size mattress in Canada that combines affordability with quality, the Octave Mirage is an exceptional choice. This mattress not only offers the spacious comfort expected of a king-size but does so with features that rival much pricier options.

The Octave Mirage excels in cooling performance thanks to its CryoFusion technology, which rivals the Puffy’s gel-infused foam and moisture-wicking cover. In my direct testing, the Mirage maintained a surface temperature conducive to comfortable sleep, similar to the Puffy, which was notably cooler by 5.7 degrees than the Novosbed in similar conditions. This ensures that I remained cool even during the hottest nights without discomfort.

The Mirage's memory foam is responsive and adaptive, closely matching the comforting contour of the Puffy, which is known for its slow-adaptive pressure relief. The Mirage adjusts to body movements slightly quicker than the Puffy, which takes about 1.7 seconds to respond to changes in position. This feature is particularly beneficial for a king-size mattress, where maintaining comfort and support across a larger area is essential.

Motion isolation is critical in a king-size mattress, especially if sharing the bed. The Mirage performs comparably to the Puffy, which absorbs most motion within 2.5 inches of movement. This feature ensures that movements on one side of the bed do not disturb a partner on the other side, making it ideal for couples.

In terms of edge support, the Mirage provides a solid perimeter that supports sitting or lying near the edge without excessive sinking. This is crucial for fully utilizing the king-size surface and compares favorably with the Puffy, which also offers good edge support but with a bit more sinkage.

Based on Our Tests

Our comprehensive evaluations show that the Octave Mirage King Size mattress stands out for its balance of quality and affordability. It provides excellent cooling, robust support, and effective motion isolation, all at a budget-friendly price.

What to Consider When Buying a King Size Mattress in Canada

What to Consider When Buying a King Size Mattress

Here are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure that our readers get the best out of their purchases. In addition, these tips aren’t limited to king-size mattresses alone; they work for all mattress sizes (read our RV mattress review here).

  • Cost. The cost of a king-size mattress can determine what sort of product an individual will purchase, bearing in mind that an expensive mattress will likely have more sleep benefitting features than less costly ones.
  • Firmness. Sleeping positions align with mattress firmness levels as each sleeper type has a unique blend of cushioning and support. For example, mattresses for side sleepers, back sleepers, and lightweight users require adequate cushioning, while heavier persons (over 230 pounds) require firmer surfaces to avoid sinking. “Firmness is crucial to consider before introducing a king-size mattress to your home. Side sleepers typically prefer a softer mattress. Back and side sleepers typically benefit from the support of a firmer mattress,” stated McKenzie Dillon, a Certified Sleep Science Coach at CNET.
  • Motion isolation. Couples or partnered sleepers especially love this feature as it battles movement restriction and minimizes sleep disturbance. It is enabled through the mattress responsive layers that limit sinkage.
  • Thermoregulation. Special cooling features improve comfortability and chances of sleeping without night sweat; however, adequate breathability helps with heat dispersal.
  • Pain relief. Cushioning plays a major part in pressure relief as the mattress cradles and massages body pressure points. It is best achieved when using medium-firm or soft mattresses; however, stomach or heavy sleepers require a firm mattress that can assure spinal alignment.
  • Maintenance. Cleaning a mattress is an almost impossible task; however, maintenance must still be done. Getting a hypoallergenic mattress is an excellent choice as it limits the risk of exposure to dirt, irritants, allergens, and bacteria. Another choice is a removable mattress cover that can be manually washed or dry-cleaned.
  • Durability. A mattress’ durability assures the user of its longevity (1). It can be sometimes tested through the sleep trial period and mattress warranty. If found unsatisfactory or faults are developed, then returns can be made to the company for either mattress change or refund.

Types of King Size Mattresses

Types of King Size Mattresses King-size mattresses come in the same core constructions as standard sizes – you’re just getting more surface area to stretch out on. Below are the main types you’ll see in shops and online, with a quick idea of how they feel and who they suit best.

  • Foam. Foam mattresses are usually made from polyfoam, memory foam or a mix of both. Memory foam is popular for its deep “hug” and pressure relief, which can ease joint and back discomfort. It also excels at motion isolation, so you’re less likely to feel a restless partner. On the downside, traditional memory foam can trap heat and feel a bit “stuck in the mud” for very active sleepers, though modern gel-infused or open-cell foams improve temperature regulation and ease of movement.
  • Latex. Latex is a responsive foam made from natural or synthetic rubber. It offers gentle contouring without the slow “sink” of memory foam, making it easier to change positions while still getting good pressure relief. Latex is naturally more breathable and durable than most synthetic foams, which is why latex mattresses often last longer and feel cooler. The trade-offs: they’re usually heavier and come with a higher price tag, especially if you choose certified natural or organic latex
  • Innerspring. Innerspring mattresses use a system of metal coils as the support core, topped with a thinner comfort layer of foam or fibre. The coil system creates strong support and excellent airflow, so these beds tend to sleep cooler and feel more “traditional” and bouncy. However, because the comfort layers are often on the thinner side, they may not provide enough cushioning for side sleepers or people with sharp pressure points unless you pair them with a plush topper.
  • Hybrid. Hybrid mattresses combine a coil support system with thicker foam or latex comfort layers, aiming to balance support, pressure relief and breathability. You get the bounce and airflow of innersprings plus the contouring of foam or latex, which can work well for couples and mixed-position sleepers. Hybrids also tend to have reinforced edges, which is handy on a king size if you use the full width of the bed. Their main drawbacks are size, weight and price – they’re usually bulkier to move and more expensive than simple all-foam or basic innerspring models.

Who Can Benefit from a King Size Mattress?

King-size mattresses are 76 inches wide, meaning they can easily fit two adults. There are different types of people that can benefit from having a king-size mattress, including single adults, partners, or families. For single adults, there is no reason not to sleep in a wide comfortable area where they can easily switch sleeping positions or find the perfect spot to sleep on. Heavier individuals can also use a king-size mattress all by themselves.  Partners will also enjoy a king-size mattress, because it gives enough room to each person to have their own space. Each person can also customize their own space with a split king mattress. Finally, when families have new kids, after a few months, the kid needs to sleep with the parents. A king-size mattress is a perfect solution to fix such a situation.

F.A.Q.

What is the average cost of a king size mattress in Canada?

The cost of a king size mattress depends on the quality of the mattress and the materials used in its construction. This means the average price for king size mattresses in Canada would be based on the mattress type. However, on average, quality king size mattresses in Canada go for about CAD$1,000 (One thousand Canadian dollar) and above.

How long should a king-size mattress last?

The average lifespan of any mattress is between 7 and 10 years; however, factors like sleeper weight, sleeping position, and mattress type all affect durability and longevity.

Conclusion

Bringing the read to a close, we can see how important choosing a top-rated king size mattress is to restorative sleep health. And one does not need to break a bank before purchase, as there are budget-friendly options. Our top-performing king-size mattress when executing our tests was the Douglas mattress because of its unrivaled motion isolation.
